Five (TV)
five, formerly known as Channel 5, is the United Kingdom's fifth terrestrial TV Channel. The British frequency plan only allowed for four channels to be transmitted using analogue terrestrial transmitters, so it was very difficult to allocate frequencies for the new channel before its launch in March of 1997 – UHF channel 37 was allocated in many areas, which meant that large numbers of domestic videorecorders (which output on that channel) had to be retuned at the new company's expense. Unlike the other four analogue British television channels, many areas remain unable to receive it via analogue terrestrial broadcasts, notably the south coast of England, where the signal would otherwise interfere with signals from television stations in France. The channel is available on all digital platforms (Sky Television satellite, and Freeview digital terrestrial, and also most cable operators).
Since the channel's first night, the soap opera ''Family Affairs'' has been airing in homes across the UK, and is one of the few original programs to have aired continuously since the first night of telecasts. The channel had a reputation for lowest-common-denominator broadcasting, famously screening low-budget "erotic thrillers" on Friday and Saturday nights (prompting the comment by the channel's director of programmes, Dawn Airey, that it was all about "films, football and f***ing"), and concentrating its output on entertainment and lifestyle shows at the expense of factual programming. Recently though it has shown signs of moving steadily upmarket, and has attracted large audiences as the UK home of many cult American series including ''CSI'', ''Law & Order'', ''Alias'' and ''Lexx''. As part of its move upmarket five won a bidding war with the other terrestrial TV channels for the rights to show the new ''Friends'' TV show spin off, ''Joey''. News media estimate five's winning bid at anywhere between £250,000 and £500,000 per show, either way in regions unheard

.Tv .tv is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for the island nation of Tuvalu. Except for reserved names like .com.tv, .net.tv, .org.tv and others, any person in the world can register a .tv domain for a fee, much of the income from which goes to the government and people of Tuvalu. The domain name is popular (and thus economically valuable) due to it being an abbreviation of the word 'television' (other similar ccTLDs are .fm, .am, and .cd). The domain is currently operated by The .tv Corporation, a VeriSign company.
There has been some controversy as to who should be allowed to reserve .tv domain names. A significant percentage of websites with .tv URLs are pornographic or otherwise sexually explicit. While this has raised significant revenue for the small nation, it has also created conflict. Much of Tuvalu's population is conservative Christian, and some feel that revenue from those sources is immoral.
Idealab, United Nations, Taiwan
Leasing the right to use the .tv domain to the Idealab company http://www.idealab.com/ gave Tuvalu enough money to join the United Nations in 2000 http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/913240.stm. This enabled Tuvalu to voice its support for its long-time diplomatic and economic ally, the Republic of China (Taiwan), in the United Nations. http://www.un.org/webcast/ga/56/statements/011116tuvaluE.htm http://www.un.org/webcast/ga/57/statements/020914tuvaluE.htm ( China and the United Nations and Foreign relations of Taiwan.)

The Second Coming (TV) ''The Second Coming'' was a two-part British television drama screened on ITV-1 in the UK in February 2003. Widely hailed as one of the most challenging and thought-provoking dramas to have been screened on a mainstream British television channel for several years, it concerns the realisation of Steve Baxter (played by Christopher Eccleston) that he is in fact the Son of God, and has just a few days to find the human race's Third Testament and thus avert the Apocalypse.
It was written by the highly experienced and award-winning dramatist Russell T. Davies, and produced by the independent Red Production Company. The programme was originally commissioned as four one-hour episodes by Channel 4 in 1999, however when new executives took over running the drama department at that channel, they decided not to pursue the project. Davies and Red's founder Nicola Shindler took the project to the BBC who quickly turned it down, and so against all expectations it found a home on ITV-1, a channel with a reputation for producing mainstream, unchallenging, "middle-of-the-road" drama.
Screened over two successive evenings in prime time on a Sunday and Monday night, ''The Second Coming'', despite its controversial subject matter, was widely hailed as a great success by critics and media commentators, with strong performances from Eccleston and his co-stars, particularly Lesley Sharp as Judy, his best friend and love interest.
''The Second Coming'' won the Royal Television Society Award for Best Drama One-Off in 2004. The same year, it featured in two major categories at the BAFTA Television Awards, the most important TV awards ceremony in the UK. In the Best Actor category Christopher Eccleston lost out to Bill Nighy (for ''State of Play'') while the production itself was beaten by ''Charles II: The Power and the Passion'' in the Best Drama Serial category.
