A R Kane

A R Kane were a 1980s and 1990s British indie band. They were respectively the A - Alex Ayuli and the R - Rudi Tambala from the East of London. After 2 singles on different labels and a surprise number one hit as part of M/A/R/R/S (pump up the volume) they made two ground-breaking albums that placed them precariously in the indie scene - however they preferred the term "dream pop". These albums were "69" in 1988 and "i" in 1989. Hard to place in terms of genre, "69" was more consciously indie - "i" was clearly more slick. Both achieved wide critical acclaim. Follow up album "New Clear Child" (1994) was not received as well, the reasons were the seeming lack of a coherent direction and a feeling that the ideas were merely re hashes of works that were completed more succinctly in the earlier 2 albums. Rudy Tambala attempted to continue making music under the name Sufi. Neither is currently involved in the music industry to any great extent. Category:British musical groups

Citizen Kane

''Citizen Kane'' is the first feature film directed by Orson Welles (he had directed two short films previously), and is loosely based on the life of the newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, the reclusive aerospace and movie mogul Howard Hughes, and the Chicago utilities magnate Samuel Insull. Welles maintained that the character is a composite of several historical individuals. Internally while it was under production, it was referred to as ''RKO 281''. The film premiered on May 1, 1941. Endlessly discussed and dissected by critics and viewers alike, this innovative film is perhaps the most influential ever in film history. The movie has some parallels to the 1933 movie ''The Power and the Glory''. Ruth Warrick was the last main cast member still living. She died on January 15, 2005. The only remaining living cast members are Buddy Swan and Sonny Bupp, who played Kane at age 8 and Kane's young son, respectively.

Overview

Produced in 1941, the film deals with the inability of Charles Foster Kane (played by Welles) to truly love. Instead Kane has only "Love on my own terms". As a result, Kane eventually alienates every loved one around him and dies a lonely recluse in an opulent, but crumbling estate. Kane dies in the opening scene of the film; this is followed by a newsreel pastiche documenting Kane's public life (this segment was produced by RKO's actual newsreel department). The remainder of the movie is told through flashbacks being related to a reporter trying to improve the newsreel — the newsreel is regarded as functional but not especially profound, and furthermore the reporter is searching for the meaning behind Mr. Kane's dying word, "rosebud". , is here commemorated on a postage stamp. In this famous scene Kane gives a political speech with a giant portrait of himself in the background.]] What is revealed has been described by Jorge Luis Borges, in a 1941 review, as a "metaphysical detective story. Paul Kane

Paul Kane (September 3, 1810 – February 20, 1871) was an Irish-Canadian painter. He was born in Mallow, County Cork in Ireland and as a young boy he immigrated to Canada with his family sometime before 1822. In his early career he worked as a furniture decorator in Cobourg Ontario. The furniture maker he worked for was F.S. Clench. Paul Kane was inspired by the American Indian paintings of George Catlin. In 1845 with the help of Sir George Simpson of the Hudson's Bay Company he set out with the fur-traders to document the Canadian west. He was present at the last great buffalo hunt. After four years he returned to Eastern Canada with over 700 sketches. Mount St. Helens, the volcano in the present-day State of Washington, was one of his subjects. Paintings based on his sketches were made after his return to Toronto. He also wrote of his experiences in his book "''Wanderings of an Artist - Among the Indians of North America''" published in 1859. He died in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. On February 25, 2002, his portrait of Jon Leffroy garnered a record price for a painting by a Canadian painter, C$4.6 million. There are a couple of Portraits by Kane in the collection of The Art Gallery of Northumberland - Cobourg, Ontario Canada.

    Kane Milohai

In Polynesian mythology, Kane Milohai is the father of Kā-moho-ali'i, Pele (whom he exiled to Hawaii), Pere, Kapo, Namaka and Hi'iaka by Haumea. He created the sky, earth and upper heaven and gave Kumu-Honua the garden. He owned a tiny seashell that, when placed on the ocean's waves, turned into a huge sailboat. The user of the boat had merely to state his destination and the boat took him there. In agricultural and planting traditions, Kane was identified with the sun. The word Kane alone means "man". As a creative force, Kane was the heavenly father of all men. As he was the father of all living things, he was a symbol of life in nature. Alternative: Kane, Kane-Hekili ("thunderer" or "lightning breaking through the sky"), Kane Hoalani Category:Polynesian mythology
