Hardwood Furniture

Hardwood

is a typical temperate zone hardwood]] The term hardwood designates wood from angiosperm trees. Hardwood contrasts with softwood, which comes from gymnosperm (coniferous) trees. They are in general of higher density and hardness, but there is considerable variation in actual wood hardness in both groups, with a large amount of overlap; some hardwoods (e.g. balsa) are softer than most softwoods. Hardwoods are usually used in appearance products such as furniture, flooring, etc. In some regions where softwood is scarce, such as Australia, hardwood may also be used for structural components of constructions. :''See List of woods''

    Hardwood

=A List of Hardwoods= There is a list of hardwoods here as well as in the article List of woods. The one here is more informative, but the other one is more comprehensive and includes scientific names. Should these be merged, perhaps? Ehn 15:50, 3 Nov 2004 (UTC) :Agreed; several of the descriptions here are inaccurate too. I'd be inclined to discard them, and keep to the list at List of woods - MPF 23:14, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)

    Amy Hardwood

Amy Hardwood is a fictional character in the British sitcom ''Blackadder''. She appeared in the third series episode "Amy and Amiability" and was played by Miranda Richardson. Amy was chosen by Mr. E. Blackadder to be the bride of his master, the Prince Regent, due to his belief that her father, an industrialist, was extremely rich. However, upon the discovery that Mr. Hardwood wished his daughter to marry the Prince for ''his'' money, Blackadder called it off. Amy appeared to be an extremely soppy and child-like person, somewhat like Queenie without the ruthlessness. Like Queenie she was proud of her nose, believing it to be "so wee I sometimes think the pixies must have given it to me". It transpired that this was a front, and she was, in fact, the highly ruthless and practical (although squirrel-phobic) highwayman, the Shadow. Blackadder learnt this after taking up highway robbery himself, and believed she was attracted to him. However their plan to rob the Prince of everything he had, then go to Barbados, was modified by Amy, to involve killing Edmund and going to Barbados on her own. With Baldrick's help, Blackadder turned the tables and the Shadow was lynched, without anyone learning of Blackadder's involvement. A very similar character, Nurse Mary Fletcher-Brown, also played by Richardson, appears in the ''Blackadder Goes Forth'' episode "General Hospital". Like Amy she has a "fluffy bunny act" (her bedside manner), but is really a highly intelligent and cynical person. (While Prince George is disgusted by Amy's wetness, Lieutenant George thinks Nurse Mary is "an absolute peach", and appears to be regressing to the nursery under her care.) She had a brief fling with Captain Blackadder, but this time it was he who was leading her on, suspecting her of being a German spy and eventually exposing her. She was executed by firing squad. Temperate Hardwood Forest

A temperate hardwood forest is a type of forest found in temperate zones around the globe. These are forests, generally mesic, where hardwood or broadleaf trees, mostly deciduous, form vast forests. These forests support ecosystems that are very different from temperate and cold-climate evergreen forests, and from most tropical forests, exhibiting an extreme cycling involving leaf fall, a cold winter and dormancy. The duff layer, mostly due to fallen tree leaves, is a critical component in the ecosystems of these forests. In many regions of these forests, a particular type known as oak-hickory forest dominates. There are three main regions of hardwood forests in the world, in North America, east Asia, and Europe. This forest type is included in the biome labeled Temperate broadleaf and mixed forests. category:Terrestrial biomes

    Furniture

Furniture is the collective term for the movable objects which support the human body (seating furniture and beds), provide storage, and hold objects on horizontal surfaces above the ground. Storage furniture is used to hold or contain smaller objects such as tools, books, and household goods. Furniture can be a product of artistic design and is considered a form of decorative art. In addition to furniture's functional role, it can serve a symbolic or religious purpose. Domestic furniture works, in conjunction with furnishings such as clocks and lighting, to create comfortable and convenient interior spaces.
